Meteorological station location 2

PI: Virginia Ciardini email:virginia.ciardini@enea.it

A meteorological station for measuring temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, and wind speed and direction has been installed on a trellis located 40 meters northwest of the THAAO building.

The station is equipped with a Campbell Scientific HMP155A probe for temperature and relative humidity measurements. Atmospheric pressure is monitored using a CS106 barometer, housed within the datalogger enclosure; the sensor measures external pressure via a
small tube that passes through the casing. Horizontal wind speed and direction are recorded using a YOUNG Model 05103 Wind Monitor. All measurements are collected at 1-minute intervals by a CR1000X datalogger, which transfers the data via FTP to a NAS storage system.
The station also includes a Campbell SR50A-L sonic distance sensor, which provides a non-contact method for measuring snow depth.

The station was installed at THAAO in late April 2023 as part of the ECAPAC project (Effects of Changing Albedo and Precipitation on the Arctic Climate), funded by the Italian Arctic Research Programme (PRA).
