The Ceilometer installed at Thule since November 2019 is a CHM 15k "NIMBUS" one wavelength (1064nm) monostatic biaxial elastic Lidar cloud height sensor, aimed to the detection 24/7 of aerosol and clouds backscatter profiles up to 15km.

The CHM 15k "NIMBUS" installed at Thule is able to provide the Aerosol layer height (ALH) and the Cloud base height (CBH) with the corresponding Cloud penetration depth (CPD) in 3 different layers, the total cloud cover (TCC), the sky conditions (clear, rain, snow or fog detection) and the vertical visibility.
